Dream Shopping: Summer Essentials

It’s a cruel summer, leaving me here on my own (it’s a cruel, cruel summer!). Though most of my friends have packed up and gotten the heck out of dodge, I have another full three months to say my goodbyes to Boston. Lonely? Possibly. But it’s also a chance to get myself to some of my favorite alone time spots, the kinds one normally doesn’t have time for when there are - gack - people around. The MFA? Check. Shopping on Newbury? Oh, yes. Old films at the Brattle? I will be there. And though I might have to spend the summer on my lonesome, that doesn’t mean I can’t get dressed to do it, right?
An ideal outfit for the modern urban warrior. Let’s just hope that someday my bank account will catch up with my dreaming.
Clockwise from top:

Daddy, I Want it NOW!

Hey, remember when I was on the search for the perfect Oxford? Alexa’s got us covered. I know I’m like a month late on this one, but hey, it’s been a little busy round these parts. So, um, can it be Fall now? Please?

Shhh. How about some financial aid? Several really awesome clothing stores offer sweet student discounts all the time. You know, to ease the whole “starving college student thing.” Check out J.Crew (15 percent), Madewell (15 percent) and Club Monaco (20 percent) for the kind of preppy/hip staples none of us can live without. All you have to do is show your student ID at checkout. A+.
Shhhh…
Do you go to Northeastern? Love Madewell?
Have best check this out then.
Obsession No. 3

So something we all pretty much know about me is that I’m a really big fan of Madewell, J.Crew’s little sister. I couldn’t tell you why. There’s just something about vintage-y basics that really tugs at my fashion heartstrings. Anyway, the brand may have intervened in my love affair with those old Frye ankle boots. Forget those. What I r-e-a-l-l-y want are the ankle booties the model is wearing, but in black, which are pictured second from the right. Tragically, Madewell doesn’t have a full online store, so I’ll have to wait until I get back to Boston to check the beauties out in person, but there’s a pretty significant chance this year’s textbook budget is going to them instead.
Might Just Make it After All

Thanks to the brilliant minds at Shopbop, Madewell is now online. Well, sort of. J.Crew’s baby sister is far and away one of my favorite brands, but it doesn’t have an option to shop on its website. Shopbop stepped in, and now offers some of the label’s best stuff, like its skinny jeans, leather boots and scarves. For complete collections, you’ll still have to check out the stores in person.
